Lucian Alliance AU
Jun. 13th, 2016 14:22Born 1981 on the planet Jizhou, controlled by Lord Yu. The inhabited parts of the planet are predominately mountainous, with the Stargate placed in an area with great waterfalls and rich vegetation. However, most people don't get to go there apart from honouring Lord Yu when he visits, or when something needs to be transported through the Stargate - though actual travel was generally restricted to the Jaffa. The areas further out, where most people lived and worked, were more sparsely vegetated.
While not free to govern themselves, conditions were not too terrible. The settlement was mainly centred around mining, manufacturing and ship-building, while the bulk of food and many other resources were brought in from off-world. While some areas have been converted to produce crops, it's not enough to sustain even half of the population.
While historically a fairly decent place, productivity and prosperity was on decline throughout Seth's childhood, so by then it was not a particularly hopeful existence. They also suffered occasional attacks by rival goa'ulds, bringing more uncertainty and worry.
Seth originally worked in ship-building from a pretty young age, though eventually his sense of business and negotiation let him move up ranks into manager positions, eventually answering more directly to Yu's Jaffa. He even a few times got to travel off-world. While not privy to details, Seth's more direct contact with the Jaffa let him be a bit more aware of goings-on elsewhere in the galaxy.
By the time Seth was 18, rumours were starting to reach their planet about the Tau'ri, as Yu went to negotiate about Earth's inclusion in the Protected Planets Treaty. Soon after, he had his first personal experience with the Tau'ri, while he was taking part in a trade negotiation off-world. SG-1 and SG-10 were there, "liberating" the planet - at the time it seemed horrible to Seth. Soon after. the people buried their Stargate, cutting Jizhou off from one of their food sources.
A few years later, as various system lords fell, Yu frequently engaged in combat with the others, leading to heavier demands of new ships, and worse working conditions. When Seth was 21, Jizhou was attacked by Anubis, causing massive damage to the spaceship docks and mining facilities.
As the Jizhou was suddenly of a lot less strategic importance, and Yu was busy campaigning against Anubis, the planet was suddenly left under a lot less supervision. When SG-13 came to the planet in 2004, it was easy for them to overthrow the remaining Jaffa and free the people Jizhou.
At this point, the people of Jizhou were barely getting by. While they received some help from the Tau'ri in setting up a government, establishing more land for crops, and restoring a functioning society, it did not help nearly enough. The years following were plagued by civil unrest, crime, smuggling and corruption. As Seth was still fairly young, and perhaps too tightly allied with their former oppressors, he was not considered for taking part in the new government or companies.
Seth eventually came to the conclusion that none of the big powerful factions out there were saviours or villains, and that settlements and people such as his were just seen as pawns. They fought their battles, and the little guys had to deal with the consequences.
Instead he put his business skills to smuggling. By early 2005 and the final fall of the system lords, Seth was no longer living on Jizhou. He had eventually gotten his hands on an Al'kesh, running his operations from there, and dealing with many smugglers and con artists who were becoming members of the Lucian Alliance. He also did business with Vala Mal Doran on a few occasions.
Unlike many in the Alliance, Seth preferred to do business with the least amount of violence involved, though calling him a respectable businessman would be stretching it. He might not be involved in racketeering or extortion, but he was still smuggling drugs and weapons and didn't necessarily look too closely where it went. However, he also smuggled food and supplies for those who needed it, as long as it was enough to turn a profit and keep him afloat. He preferred to solve things with cleverness as opposed to force, and kept in his own lane enough to avoid attracting the ire of everyone else.
In late 2007, Seth stumbled upon an Ancient repository of knowledge, which reacted to his (previously unknown to him) ATA gene. Fortunately for Seth, it was only a minor repository, made to be a very specific databank of technology. He interacted with it, and it dumped a whole lot of information into his brain before some of his men interrupted the process by shooting the device. This meant he only received a limited amount of information - not enough to kill him, though it did become pretty jumbled in his head - and also that it knocked him out. He remained in a coma for about a week before starting to recover. After this, he specifically started seeking out Ancient technology, to make use of his new knowledge. He also eventually starts trading this to the Lucian Alliance.

2009: SG find out the Alliance has been getting their hands on Ancient tech, and find out that Seth is the source thanks to Vala, so they go undercover to investigate. Shep and Ronon go because they won't be recognised.
Seth eventually gets made into a Second in the Lucian Alliance. Then when they attack Icarus Base, it starts becoming imperative that SG find out what they're up to. Since Seth is a Second now, they figure he's their safest bet. They try to make him a mole? Or just go undercover again? Something something, Seth is (semi-voluntarily?) captured by SG for information, and eventually allies with them.
